Solvent Recovery Units Overview
In-House Distillation Advantages Compared to Outside Reclamation Services
  • Finish Thompson equipment can produce a purer product
  • Higher recovery yields
  • You control your distillation schedule
  • Cradle to grave control over process {Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) has put the responsibility on generators for its transportation, storage, and disposal}
  • Reduced liabilities for transportation and disposal of hazardous waste
    How it Works
    1. Boiler Chamber Filled- Solvent is poured or pumped into the boiling chamber, which the operator lines with a standard Stilbag.
    2. Solvent Heated- The chamber lid is sealed and power sent to the unit. The encapsulated heater radiates heat through the conductive walls of the chamber heating the solvent.
    3. Vapors are Formed- Vapor from the boiling solvent travels through the vapor tube to a water-cooled shell-and-tube condenser.
    4. Vapors Condense- The vapor condenses into a 99% plus pure distillate. The distillate is gravity flowed into an approved 15 or 55 gallon drum (customer supplied).
    5. Cycle Completed- When a visual check reveals no further distillate available the operator shuts the unit down and allows it to cool.
    6. Residue Removed- After cooling, the remaining residue is removed via the Stilbag.

LS Solvent Recovery Unit Series Features
  • Safety – Finish Thompson solvent recovery units are built to Class I, Division I, Group D (NEMA 7) standards of the National Electrical Code. Explosion proof components are UL listed. All UL units have CSA approval.
  • Condenser Water Flow Switch – Distillation unit only operates when sufficient cooling water is present. Interruption of water turns heater off. (Not available on the LS-JrE model)
  • Dual Thermostat – Dual thermostats ensure unit temperature does not exceed the recommendation for heater temperature in a Class I, Division I, Group D environment.
  • Patented Encapsulated Heating Element – The heating element is encapsulated within the vessel’s bottom ensuring direct heat to 100% of the vessel. The heater on all LS Solvent Recovery Unit Series units carries a life time warranty.
  • Residue Removal System – Convenient Stilbags capture residue for easy disposal. Optional Stilpan is available.
  • Quick Cool Coil – Distillation tank cools quickly, so it can be used by multiple shifts. (Optional on LS-55STE
  • Solid State Design – ensures reliable accurate operation
  • Fully Insulated – Distillation tank and lid are completely insulated with ceramic fiber for heat retention
  • Vacuum Capability – An optional vacuum system can be added to any LS Solvent Recovery Unit Series solvent recovery unit allowing recovery of solvents with boiling points up to 500°F
